The Resident view: A high-level technology architecture for Senior Living operators.

A technology architecture serves as a template for the technology components in a given business or environment. In this case, the high-level architecture presented is for the technology components in a Senior Living community, from the perspective of the Resident (the customer). The intent of this representation is to provide operators with an easy-to-digest view to the various elements in the Channels, Services, Systems, and Infrastructure that can make up the technology stack at their community.

Senior Living operators can use this template to understand the possibilities that can be tailored to their environment, based on their priorities and technology aspirations.

Starting from the Resident’s perspective and working outward through the Channels used to access Services leads to defining what Systems and Infrastructure are needed to deliver these Services.

With this template an operator can be focussed about the vendor solutions they consider.

A further benefit is the prioritization it enables: which services to provide, their cost and benefit, and how to build that into a multi-year roadmap that then serves as a blueprint for the business.

Starting technology roadmapping discussions with such a template will help keep the entire technology environment integrated and agile to accommodate future business requirements (like those of 2020). When each vendor solution is assessed within this context, the business, staff, and residents benefit, which is a desirable longer term outcome.
